Well, I just want to start off by saying that my mom totally called this.
Called what you might be asking yourself? Well, that CBC Mainstreet interview
I did last week has been picked up by a national CBC program called Editor's
Choice. Now, this is significant because it takes it from a local story
which was only going to get coverage the one time it aired and wasn't
going to be put up on the internet (except by me) and has now been lifted
to a national level where it is being played for a national audience coast
to coast to coast and is featured online as part of a cbc podcast on the
offical cbc website.
I'm
absolutely thrilled! You can check it out and listen to CBC's Pedro Mendes
saying nice things by clicking the play button below. Woo!
The pride of Sackville, New Brunswick 'Shotgun Jimmie' stopped by Ampersand
last Friday for a fun little show. We had a great crowd on hand and the
dancing got way out of control as the night wore on. Here are some photos
from the event! Also check out the music video for Mind Crum from Jimmie's
new record!
I think the secret to successful trans pacific travel is how well you
can fall asleep as you go. I swear I've practically slept all day long.
Between Charlottetown and Vancouver I think I was awake for less than
an hour total. From Vancouver to Korea I slept at least seven of the eleven
hours. On the bus from Incheon International Airport to the KTX Station
in downtown Seoul I slumbered for approximately one hour of the hour and
a half ride, and finally on the KTX from Seoul to DongDaegu station in
West Daegu I slept for over half of the journey. As a result I'm feeling
refreshed and great... we'll see how much sleep I get tonight after my
day of naps.
The
flights themselves were uneventful, I drank my apple juice and ate my
meals and worked on my website. I did however nearly sleep through the
landing in Korea though. I was jolted awake as I felt the tires touch
down on the runway. I love that feeling. You think you're thousands of
feet in the air drifting through the clouds and then all of a sudden your
feet are on the ground.
My
school has given me the rest of the week off to relax with pay. There's
a swine flu scare in Daegu and they're not taking any chances. The real
final work will begin next week where I'll teach two classes per day (mornings
only) for two weeks. By the time that wraps up Meghan will be just about
here and then the many adventures will begin.
I
can't describe how great it was to be home; and though it went very quickly
it was well worth it. I'll be posting some photos from the Ampersand show
and from a trip to the Canoe Cove and the beach shortly, as well as the
audio from the CBC Mainstreet interview I did with Matt Rainee last week.
Hmm,
7:23 PM in Daegu means it's 7:23 AM in Charlottetown. I think I've lost
a day. Well, at least I won't have two Thursdays this week. Oh, and incase
you were wondering; the above photo was snapped on the KTX train from
Seoul Station to Daegu, Tuesday evening. Oof.
My final 24 hours at home. Ahh, what a week it has been. I've spent time
with great friends and great family. It was truely a whirlwind tour of
Prince Edward Island. I didn't get to see all of you for nearly as long
as I wanted to; but I knew that going in. It was a quick sort of pop in
and out type of thing, and I loved every moment of it. See you all again
in December!
I did an interview with CBC Mainstreet a few days ago in anticipation
of the show I'm putting on this Friday. It was a neat experience to be
interviewed on such a large scale. I think the interview went pretty well;
though I couldn't help but be intimidated by the huge microphones and
general set up of the studio. It was so great to get that kind of coverage
for my show. Thanks to my pal Tristan Gray for coming with me and taking
the above photo. I'll post the audio of the 10+ minute interview soon.
We parked overlooking Victoria Park and enjoyed a picnic in the car as
we watched the rain dance along the water. I think the world would be
a better place with more picnics. I'm being very greedy and am finding
it hard to fit everything and everyone into my plans as time slips by.
Last night we talked of The Raccoons and laughed until we cried. It's
so nice to be home.
Ahh watching a sunrise in North America in nearly a year. Everyone has
been really nice to me on these flights of mine. It's silly I know but
I felt warm inside when the customs official said welcome back to me when
I landed in Vancouver. Here's to a fantastic vacation home. Life is good.
Finally July the 16th has ended for me. I swear it lasted for what seemed
to be forever with the time change. I'm currently sitting in the Montreal
airport. It's just around 5AM, I'm totally wired and I'm waiting to board
my final flight home. Wireless cost an arm and a leg in Toronto so I wasn't
able to connect. I'm still in Asia mode asking people at the airport if
they speak English. Their response: a frown and "of course".
Haha, I'm a little out of my mind right now but I just downed a subway
sandwich (my first in a year) and I'm living large.
I'm currently waiting for my connecting flight from Vancouver to Toronto.
I'll be boarding any minute now. The flight over the pacific went well.
It's currently 4:30AM Korean time, though it's just after twelve pm here
on the West Coast. Oh this jet lag is going to be epic. I'm feeling good,
hoping to sleep well on this flight over the Rocky Mountains. All for
now.
In less than an hour I'll begin my journey home. First up is a 5+ hour
bus ride to Incheon Airport, then my flight to Toronto getting in at 1130pm
local time, then a short flight to Montreal where I'll be spending the
night in the airport and finally an 8am flight to Prince Edward Island
where I'll touch down around 10:30am and be greeted with smiles and hugs
and kisses. Here we go.
Today I taught my final classes of the semester, my bags are packed and
the day after tomorrow I begin my trek home. There are a lot of things
I'm looking forward to, including a perhaps not so classy airport caress
with the girl I love, and a hug to my mom. If anyone would like to see
me fresh off of the plane looking jet lagged to hell you're welcome to
make your way to the Charlottetown Airport for 1030a.m. on Friday morning.
It'd be great to see you.
Oh, Lucero. I highly recommend the reader listen to the albums "The
Attic Tapes" and "Tennessee". This one is for Meghan and
memories of Montreal.
Check out a few more photos from the weekend trip to the East Sea / Sea
of Japan. These are a few of the photos from John's camera. Swimming was
an incredible experience. I feel like it put me in just the right mind
set for my trip home. Here I come Atlantic.
So, how was Pohang? I think the photo above says it all. I got to swim
in the East Sea / Sea of Japan, relaxed on the beach, made some new friends,
failed miserably at those pesky Korean drinking games, stayed at an amazing
hostel / home stay, did some great hiking and so much more. It was truly
a weekend to remember as we packed in so much in just 48 hours. Check
out some photos and notes below.
I'll be spending the weekend on the beach at Pohang on the East Coast
of Korea. My Korean pals John & Robin and myself will be setting out
tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to swimming in the East Sea / Sea
of Japan and checking out the nearby Buddhist temples. I'll be sure to
bring my camera along, so check back early next week for photos.
Only
six more sleeps until I make my way back to Canada for a little trip home.
I can't wait to see all of you.
Happy Canada Day! Last weekend I went to a football game at the World
Cup Stadium here in Daegu. It was a good time. I'll be boarding a plane
to Canada in sixteen short days; I can't hardly believe it. I'm looking
forward to many things including taking in a show or two at City Cinema.
Leave a message if you'd like to join me. Here's a song from Toronto's
own, Drake.
