February 22 .10

We're back! Terribly sorry about the downtime over the past few days. We hope this makes it a little better; an exclusive interview with Banner Pilot! "The last five years have been fantastic for me as far as the band goes and totally exceeded my expectations – initially they were just to try to write some songs with Nate, play some local shows and maybe record something. It’s hard to for me to believe that we just released an album on Fat Wreck Chords and are about to tour Europe – things just seem to have fallen into place, and I think we’ve been lucky with a lot of the opportunities we’ve gotten and the people we’ve connected with (Jacques Wait, Fat Mike, etc.). Release-wise, I definitely think we’ve been progressing and improving our songwriting/production with every release; Collapser is the first one that I’m totally happy with and I’m excited to get going on the next one. Touring has always a lot of fun for me – I look forward to going to Florida every October and reconnecting with cool people I’ve met along the way. I’m just stoked that the stuff we come up with on cold nights in a tiny practice space on the outskirts of downtown Minneapolis means something to some people. It means a lot to me – it’s challenging, I get to work with a lot of talented people, it’s my main social outlet, and a chance to be creative and use both sides of my brain. I think without it I’d be totally bored." READ THE BANNER PILOT INTERVIEW

Friday: Boxlor, Recovering Alcoholic
It's Friday afternoon and Boxlor is back! Last week we were in Toronto and Boxlor missed his flight, but this week he's back and struggling with addiction in Boxlor, Recovering Alcoholic. "Boxlor was a zine created by Mike Lecky & Jonah Campbell. But, I'll let them explain: "Why? Well, high school I guess. Boxlor was born out of (birthed from as it were) the minds of two creative and misguided teenage boys, early in the summer of the year 1999. The Adventures of Boxlor ran as an online feature (really more of an ouevre) on superfunk and aioku.com until the strip was picked up by the UPEI student newspaper, The Cadre, where the final storylines were churned out under the supervision and heavy-handed, gestapo-esque editing of Kent assface Bruyneel." Thursday: More Cold Warps Photos from PEI
We've got nine more exclusive photos of Cold Warps playing live from the House of Rock in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on the 30th of January 2010. Thanks to Christina for taking the photos and Paul Hammond for supplying us with them It was a magical night. Fast times at the House of Rock! Windom Earle All Stars, Cold Warps, Syracuse Me, Money in the Banana Stand, and Pest Control all brought the house down --figuratively speaking of course--. There was a little something for everyone; what a glorious night! There's so much to say; but I think a simple Thank You will suffice. Thank yous to everyone for coming out and taking your shoes off and dancing and clapping and standing in the corner and spending a night with friends new and old. I'm really proud to be apart of this; we're making Charlottetown rad hand in hand. Before I start to rant too much here I also want to send quick thank yous to the bands for playing and giving it their all. Thanks to everyone who helped out taking photos with my camera (Angele, Melissa, Josh), those who video taped (Dan, Isaac), Kyle Large for working the door practically all night, and of course Jamie Hanus & his roomate for inviting us all into their home. This was amazing. CHECK OUT THE RAD CHARLOTTETOWN PHOTO SERIES: FAST TIMES AT THE HOUSE OF ROCK

Wednesday: Thank You Ampersand (RIP)
We have some sad news for you today on the Ampersand front. The building is going to be rented out beginning March first. It looks like this is the end of the beloved art space / show venue. This is a serious blow to the all ages music community of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The Ampersand folks have done so much for us over the years; they will be sorely missed. I'd like to thank the Stewarts, Jenn, and Drew and everyone involved with Ampersand for their wonderful efforts. It was one hell of a run. We won't soon forget it. Thank you. The Shotgun Jimmie / Burning Hell / Construction & Destruction / New Royalty show will be happening at Back Alley Music on March 2nd. More info soon. SPEAK UP: SHARE MEMORIES AND GIVE THANKS TO AMPERSAND

Tuesday: From Malaysia Jose Phine Interview
From Malaysia with love; we've got an interview with emerging screamo mainstay Jose Phine. I recently spent some time in Asia, and Malaysia in particular so it's a great thrill for me to bring this interview to you. We covered a number of topics including how the band got started, their 2009 Indonesian tour and much more including their experiences playing in Malaysia: "Our experiences playing in Malaysia are not really tremendous. I can say it is quite moderate. Other than us, there are several active bands in Malaysia I can list here such as Dhaigila, Dramacoma, Halal/Hadhari, Killeur Calculatuer, Monaco Heart Attack and many more. Personally for me these guys are talented. We managed to share one stage with them before and it was quite an amazing moment for us. The bad thing I'd like to mention here are punctuality. Let's say on the flyer the show will start around 2PM but in the end it may drag up until 5PM to start. I am not saying that we've never come late to a show before. We are also trying to minimize this habit and improves our ethic from time to time. I do not know if the problem is associated with our culture or what." READ THE JOSE PHINE INTERVIEW FROM MALAYSIA

Thursday: Drive to the Coast: Cold Warps by Aimee Power
Contributor Aimee Power is back at it with Drive to the Coast! Aimee came out to the show we put on for Cold Warps & Windom Earle at the House of Rock in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island a few weeks ago and had this to say: "Their quickie EP has a poppy, vintage quality, but these boys are hopefully just getting started. Cold Warps recently made a stop into the JUNNKTANK house party at the House of Rock in Charlottetown. I arrived late to the show, but got there just in time to shimmy around a Kent Street living room and sing along to their catchy sound. Come back and play again soon? Please?" Tuesday: The New Technology Zine by Stephan MacLeod
This zine comes from Charlottetown's Stephan MacLeod, perhaps better known as the charismatic frontman and founder of screw wave dance party band Windom Earle. The New Technology was also the title of an early Windom Earle release, so it should come as no surprise that both The New Technology CD + Zine were actually released together. You'll recognize some of the contributors listed in the zine; names like Kent Bruyneel (future editor of Forget Magazine), and Jeff Coll (of the Jeff Coll Five). New Technology appears on JUNNNKtank.com with the permission of the author. READ THE NEW TECHNOLOGY ZINE BY STEPHAN MACLEOD

Monday: Join the JUNNNktank Community
I have to admit when I started up the JUNNNKtank message board I did so very cautiously. I didn't want it to fall from grace and just turn into a haven for drama and shit talk. I wanted to create a space where readers of the webzine could give feedback about what we were doing and what was going on in the community. Looking back at things I'm not entirely sure I achieved what I set out for; but on Saturday night I was filled with a sense of optimism. All the message board users were invited for an evening of friends, dinner, and shenanigans. The turnout was overwhelming and it was a really fun night at Razzy's Roadhouse in Charlottetown! Who knows, maybe message boards aren't so bad after all. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, SIGN UP TO THE JUNNNKTANK BOARD RIGHT NOW

It's Boxlor Friday here on JUNNNKtank.com! This week Boxlor tries to enjoy a show at the Confederation Centre of the arts in Boxlor, Patron of the Arts. Wednesday: THO1973APBFV Music Download
Take a peak at one of the most mysterious bands to ever grace the Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island scene. The Heroes of 1973 as Portrayed by Famous Vampires were active --if you can call it that--, throughout the year 2003. They released two records, never played a show, and disbanded --if you can call it that-- in 2004. Frontman Eagan Boire recently submitted the very first Heroes of 1973 mini cd to JUNNNKtank.com and answered a few of our questions in an attempt shed a bit more light on the bands existence: "The heroes, originally, were me, Kyle Large and Kyle Stewart. We came together to fill the void Charlottetown had at the time for experimental noise, there were a few tongue in cheek references to locals and local bands throughout the album and it was generally just a good time. Our reluctance to play a show was based on the difficulty of reproducing that creative vibe without playing something completely different each time." Tuesday: Banner Pilot & Daniel Striped Tiger Previews
We've got exclusive interviews with both Banner Pilot and Daniel Striped Tiger in the works. We hope to have the interviews all wrapped up and ready to bring to you soon, but in the mean time you can check out these interview sneak peaks! BANNER PILOT: "Well we've wanted to go to Europe and/or Japan for a long time and Fat really opened up some doors that made it relatively easy to do. They have great promotion in Europe and as soon as the record came out we got contacted by at least three different bookers want to do tours with us. It was a tough choice but we went with Benny from Klownhouse because OWTH told us they were great. I've never been to Europe, so I'm just looking foward to everything blowing my mind and being a stranger in a strangeland (Maiden reference). I'm stoked to try some regional food/beer, see old architecture (1900s is old in MN), and meet a bunch of crazy Europeans. Groezrock too! I heard that is awesome." Monday: Sleepless Nights Tour Blog #3
The Sleepless Nights are back with another tour blog update from the road: "We got up in the morning and headed out of the city to Pinky’s cousin’s house. Upon arriving we were treated to pizza and chicken fingers. I ate and took a shower, which was well needed and deserved. If you know the next day you are going to do a ten hour drive, sometimes it seems a little pointless to shower and put on fresh clothes just to sit in a stinky van all day. So after that we went downstairs where he has this amazing home theater setup. In addition to that he also has an actual T2: The Arcade Game console, which we played for a good while." I first became aware of Sinaloa a couple of years ago; it was through a friends distro where I was first introduced to the band through their split LP with the amazing Ampere. I knew then that I had to interview them. I got in touch with the band in the summer of '09 about a possible interview. They were more than happy to do it and over the following months we chipped away at the work below. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed putting it together: " We are three friends, first, who became a band when we found ourselves all in the same place, bored, with lots of energy to create something. We started a band, really, as a way to spend a summer learning to play new instruments, together, and we have kept it going for 8 years or so. There isn't so much free time, now, but I think we still have lots of energy to put towards making something. When we started, Pete and I had just graduated college, and Brendan had a year to go. Now, we all have full time jobs, relationships, etc. to fit in with playing music. Brendan works in systems management for a financial company and plays guitar. Pete teaches first through third graders and plays guitar. I coordinate disposal of hazardous waste for an environmental services company and play drums. We all sing, in some capacity, and we all write. We've made 3 full length records, quite a few split records with people we admire, traveled to a lot of places we never would have seen, and met a ton of great people we never would otherwise have met. We're still learning to play, still friends, and still enjoying the process of making something out of thin air. "READ THE SINALOA INTERVIEW RIGHT FRIGGIN' NOW

In January of 2002 the stories were posthumously compiled, printed and assembled into what you new hold in your hands. Upon the completion of this gargantuan task, the (mostly) finished product was promptly sealed in a cardboard box where it was forgotten (although often recalled in fond remembrances of a bygone era... and hense not really forgotten so much as neglected) for the next 17 months... Then one beautiful summer day in the, uh spring of 2003, the dusty carcass of this comic leviathan was salvaged and new life breathed into it." READ THE ADVENTURES OF BOXLOR: BOXLOR IN LOVE

Wednesday: Fresh Video Windom Earle All Stars
We've got the freshest of fresh videos coming at you today: I've never looked at Windom Earle the same ever since watching the Twin Peaks TV series. Here is a video of the Windom Earle All Stars (members of Windom Earle, Jeff Coll Five, Operation Impact, and Juan Love) playing live from the House of Rock in downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on January 30th, 2010. It's always a good time with Windom Earle. WATCH THE WINDOM EARLE ALL STARS BELTING IT OUT AT THE HOUSE OF ROCK

Tuesday: On the Road Sleepless Nights Tour Blog #3
Things get a little crazy as the boys head into the wilds of New Brunswick. "For whatever reason we are hanging out in the room near the door and the bathroom. Just standing being stupid. We hear a knock on the door. Gavin says, “Who is it?” The voice (the night manager Allan) says, “it’s me!” Gavin replies, “FUCK OFF” Thinking it was one of the bands. The manager guy freaks out and says if we aren’t quiet he’ll call the cops and kick us out. And that other people who are trying to sleep paid more money than us (????) for their rooms. So we retreat further into the room onto the beds and try to keep noise down; which is pretty easy to do while we are talking, but then as something funny happens and everyone laughs, the volume goes through the roof." Gooood Monday morning to you! We've got a little video to show you today. This is a video from Halifax garage/pop/punk group Cold Warps playing live from the House of Rock in downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on January 30th, 2010. I came back to Pinky's house really tired and tried to take a nap. I got about four minutes in and then fifteen people showed up. We then went to the superstore and proceeded to buy a large amount of lobsters as most of the central Canadians haven't had it before. So back at Pinky's we take turns cooking lobsters in pairs and eating and generally making a large mess of Pinky's house." KEEP READING THE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS TOUR BLOG

Friday: Tomorrow Dance til Death House Show
Ready? Set? Rock out or die tomorrow at the House of Rock (361 Kent St Charlottetown)! It's a bit of a homecoming as partiers Cold Warps & Windom Earle will be returning to the House of Rock in one way or another. Members of both bands have played at 361 Kent before and Stephan of Windom Earle actually lived there for a time! Up and comers Money In The Banana Stand seem to be a fixture at JUNNNktank.com shows and for good reason. This is a band that gives me hope for the Charlottetown music community. If every band could be as dedicated and as honest as this band we'd have it made. We're also excited to have aggressive pop punk rockers Syracuse Me on the bill as well! And guess what? Syracuse Me will be up first so you best be getting to the show on time! The show is going to be a benefit for the Upper Room Food Bank & Soup Kitchen in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island. Bring a non-perishable food item to support the community. The cost of the show will be $5 (with or without a can) and everyone is welcome. We'll get things going around 6pm and will be finished early by 9pm. We'll be starting promptly at six o'clock so get there early and on time or you'll be missing out! Then one beautiful summer day in the, uh spring of 2003, the dusty carcass of this comic leviathan was salvaged and new life breathed into it." READ THE ADVENTURES OF BOXLOR: BOXLOR'S BEAUTIFUL DAY

Join the Sleepless Nights on tour throughout Eastern Canada for the next two weeks! Full listings of shows can be found at thesleeplessnights.com. Keep up to date on all of the happenings from the road right here in this spiffy On the Road: Sleepless Nights Winter 2010 Tour Blog thanks to Jeff Pineau: "My bags are packed. Synth: Check. Case full of gadgets: Check. Clothing: Check. I just have to pack up my laptop and my day to day make-you-beautiful things. I went out to see a few songs by The Wooden Sky --myspace.com/thewoodensky-- last night at Baba's. We are playing a couple shows with them on the weekend and it should be a good time. I ended up being out way too late last night and thankfully at the last minute I found a ride to Halifax today. Which meant I didn't have to wake up at 6:30am to catch the bus over." Tuesday: Drive to the Coast English Words by Aimee Power
JUNNNKtank.com contributor Aimee Power is coming at you with another edition of the Drive to the Coast photo zine. The band we once lovingly called "Smothered in Hugs" is under a new name, and they are celebrating. This Friday night party was one to remember. They gave out an EP to each smiling fan just to remind them that English Words were here to stay." Drive to the Coast is a photo zine compiled by Aimee Power. There's something special brewing in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island these days. This column is an attempt to take a snapshot of what's going down and to try to take its pulse. Whenever good things are happening in Charlottetown Aimee will be there to document it. These days Aimee can be seen with camera inhand around the streets of Charlottetown, though she has spent time throughout the country. She let me put on a show at her house a few years ago for The Death Set from Baltimore and Windom Earle. We filled the basement to the brim and we danced all night. It turned out to be one of the best shows of my life. Aimee has a kitty named Battle Cat & another kitty named Gideon. You can contact Aimee by sending an email to missaimee at gmail.com.
