Boxlor in Love by Mike Lecky & Jonah Campbell

From "The Adventures of Boxlor" Zine

Boxlor was a zine created by Mike Lecky & Jonah Campbell. But, I'll let them explain: "Why? Well, high school I guess. Boxlor was born out of (birthed from as it were) the minds of two creative and misguided teenage boys, early in the summer of the year 1999. The Adventures of Boxlor ran as an online feature (really more of an ouevre) on superfunk and aioku.com until the strip was picked up by the UPEI student newspaper, The Cadre, where the final storylines were churned out under the supervision and heavy-handed, gestapo-esque editing of Kent assface Bruyneel.

In January of 2002 the stories were posthumously compiled, printed and assembled into what you new hold in your hands. Upon the completion of this gargantuan task, the (mostly) finished product was promptly sealed in a cardboard box where it was forgotten (although often recalled in fond remembrances of a bygone era... and hense not really forgotten so much as neglected) for the next 17 months...

Then one beautiful summer day in the, uh spring of 2003, the dusty carcass of this comic leviathan was salvaged and new life breathed into it.

...Unfortunately, the resuscitated zine was incomplete, poorly laid out, and rife with questionable language. And so the authors set out, with only the meanest of the chronological amenities at their disposal, to render it acceptable for mass distribution and consumption. Thus, the following should be noted:

The missing and/or incomplete pages were produced using only a typewriter, irreparably disrupting the sweet sweet Times New Roman aesthetic that the rest of the zine had going for it. Bummer.

Also the pages were filthy dirty (with dirt).

With regards to the questionable use of terms and phrases such as "dirty cunt", "no one fucks Boxlor up the ass", etc... we apologize, it's very much a remnant of our sense of humour at the time (the ole "we're englightened progressive, so our being blatantly offensive and inconsiderate is thus ironic and funny"), and were we writing it again, we certainly wouldn't have used the same language. That being said, we decided for the sake of the comic's integrity and totally "in-your-face" 'tude, the original text, in all its repulsive glory, would be left intact. We regret any sexist, homophobic, or body-negative connotations, but it just seemed really funny at the time.

Extra thanks were tacked on in the final stretch to give cred to the bands we were rocking out to at the time.

The Saddam Hussein reference was really a whole lot funnier back in '99 when nobody cared about him anymore. If we 'd written it now we probably would have put something about "Bill Clinton's lascivious escapades circa 1998".

As for our flagrant misuse of THE BARTER SYSTEM, we are perfectly aware that paying cash for theatre tickets is not an example of bartering at all.

We are also well aware that Charlie Sheen was not in The Breakfast Club. that's why it's funny, ass.

We apologize for the following useless pages, this is due to our general lack of layout foresight, and the erratic constitution of the Boxlor legacy. It was even worse before we added this longwinded and mostly superfluous endnote. --Jonah & Mike. Victoria, BC. 2003."

Boxlor will run every Friday on JUNNNktank.com for the next while. It appears on JUNNNKtank.com with the permission of the authors.
