Mount
Eerie
from Ampersand August 03.09
During
my Sappyfest Weekend, the Mount Eerie show took place in the Vogue
Theatre and I couldn't even get a seat. Two days later, I get
an intimate all -request show in my favourite Charlottetown Cafe.
Life is good.
Phil
Elvrum writes beautiful music that can be picked up at anytime.
He uses the very common formula of tying in feelings of love with
nature and the simplicity of it all just works. I think of Phil
much too highly to keep swooning like this, it should stop.
The
show started of with Calvin Johnson, who sung a few stories. First
time seeing Calvin and I have mixed feelings. It was interesting,
but I don't think I'd rush to catch his set again.
It
was a dark night at Ampersand when Mount Eerie took the singin'
chair and the crowd was truly appreciative of every request that
came out. Mount Eerie played both I Felt Your Shape and The Moon,
which was incredible. We all sat in the dim light and it felt
like we were all buds. I had fun in thinking about how jealous
all of the Saturday night Sappy goers would be if they saw this.
The ones who had to sit at the back of the Vogue Theatre in that
heat, just to get a glimpse at Phil. Whereas we had him within
arm's reach. Oh, Charlottetown.
