The
weather was calling for a biblical amount of rain, but we trooped
through with our rain boots and ponchos and saw a pile of amazing
acts. I guess my Friday night highlight would have to be Eric's
Trip. I was so engaged I didn't take any photos, whoops. My
first time seeing them and I feel like I totally "get it"
now. Yeah, that sounds corny, but I have spent years listening
to Eric's Trip hype from older scenesters and now I'm in on
it. I get why they are so special, I get why people still give
a shit and I get why Sackville is so special to a lot of people.
Okay, enough fangirl gushing.
My
favourite discovery of Friday night had to be the Burning Hell.
I know they have been to Charlottetown before and have played
Baba's a bunch, and now I am kicking myself for not making it
my mission to head to those shows. They had a huge sound and
scored points with me for having an accordion, strings and an
omnichord! It took a few to clue in that Jenny Omnichord (who
once had a lovely show at Ampersand) was in the band, alllright!
They ended their set with a cover of Destiny's Child's "Bills
Bills Bills". It was spectacular.
I
ended my night at the bar show at Uncle Larry's. Although the
bar itself looked like the stock market exchange, the venue
was the perfect refuge from the rain. I got there just in time
to see one of my favourites - Windom Earle. They all adorned
underwear, but were tastefully covered up in ponchos. The karaoke
was loud and exciting, and screaming "Living on a Prayer"
never felt so good. The music ended and I headed back to my
tent to sleep in a giant puddle. I was wet, but happy.
