LONESOME ROAD BLUES from BLUE FOG RECORDINGS

1. Please introduce yourself.
My name is Jennifer Castle.

2. What is your musical background? When did folk/indie/whatever come into play?
I have just been writing songs for a long time, playing guitar for quite a while and singing for along time too. I started performing in England when I lived there when I was 19, so folk came into play when I had to be billed on certain types of nights. I usually got on the 'folk' nights. Indie came into play when I played more with bands fox the boombox and everybody get sick. Then I was in the 'indie' scene.

3 . Is it easy for you to go out there and play in front of an audience? What's your ideal show situation (type of venue, crowd, other bands or musicians, etc?)
It's not easy thinking about performing before hand and sometimes it's not easy to actually perform because of nerves or whatever, and because I'm on my own and get intimidated, but sometimes a crowd listens and appreciates the type of playing you do and then you can feel a bit better. There have been some great shows, in parks, on the beach. The Vogue Theatre last year was pretty far out for me.

4. What does castlemusic mean to you?
Castlemusic is what I call the music I perform, and a name to put on posters that isn't the name my mom calls me.

5. When do you think the best time and situation to listen to Castlemusic is?
I'm not too sure about that one. I can't imagine listening to myself. That's a good question. A weird thing to ponder really. I've always felt lucky when people have said they were humming my songs in their heads after they heard it live or recorded or whatever. So I guess the answer is in your head after you've encountered it.

6. What are some of the things you try to communicate through your music?
Whatever I'm trying to communicate I'm trying to do it truthfully.

7. Do you think it's necessary for independent musicians and bands to have a form of ethics?
It's important to be kind to each other when you can and if you can't then be tough but truthful and still kind and make sure you take care of yourself and stand up for yourself and let things roll off your back too. The music industry is pretty fucked up, but music is good.

8. You will once again be playing Sappyfest this coming August. Now since you played the fest last year as well, I was wondering if you you had any insider tips for first timers to Sappyfest on how to get the most out of the weekend?
Definitely find a haystack and tip it and lie on it and watch the sun come up from it on a foggy hot morning with your best friend. The railroad tracks are cool. Or get a good seat to watch the Vogue Theatre performances. Or find the ocean and leave the festival for a few hours.

9. Any interesting stories or highlights from last years Sappyfest?
Being there was pretty awesome. Actually just being there was great. Everyone treated each other well. There was good food and beds. People were nice and I like Sackville a lot. I went bowling in that old bowling alley with a few friends a learned that Dallas Wherle can spin the worlds slowest bowling ball and I mean really really slow and still get a decent pin count down.

10. What is your favorite dance party song?
Whitney Houston "I want to dance with somebody" is really good to party with.

11. Word Association!
Dreams: stevie nicks
Prelude: serious? To a kiss.
Destruction: construction site
Individuality: happens
Forgotten: already
Revived: again
You: are anyway

12. What are the last five records you bought and your current top five?
Bought:
MIA, Elizabeth Cotton, Neil Young American Bar's and Stars (on vinyl finally), Hazel and Alice, Eric Chenaux.

Current Five?
It changes a lot, but I've been really into positive music lately. Like James Brown, you know? Super funk positive shit or really relaxing positive reggae. or, like, pretty Appalachian, or like 90's Bjork.

13. What future plans do you have?
Well I'm releasing a record on Blue Fog Records this month and then hopefully people hear it and like it. Hopefully I can go to them and play for them. Hopefully somewhere people might want me to play guitar and sing songs for them if they are in the mood to listen to music.

14. How can ppl contact you?
Through myspace mostly I think myspace.com/jennifercasltemusic or jennifercastle@gmail.com.

15. Any final words?
Thanks, see you soon.
