DIE JOB LIVE from TORONTO

1. Please introduce Chara and give some background on the band, including how you came up with the name.
Chara is a heavy metal band based out of Charlottetown, PEI. We started playing together in the late summer of 2004 and we played our first show in October of 2004. A friend actually mentioned the name C, we thought about it for a while, and then decided it would work. Just so you know, Chara is a type of weed, the brightest star in the sky, a research centre in the states, and the huge defense player for the Ottawa Senators. Rad.

2 How would you describe your music to someone who has yet to hear it?
A peanut butter sandwich, where the peanut butter is metal and the bread is sex. Or, heavy music with lots of flow and screaming vocals. We dig any kind of music, and hopefully you'll hear that in our own.

3. What were the original goals of Chara? have they been met? what are the current goals and how do you hope to accomplish them?
The original goals of Chara were simply to have a band to play a few shows with and to just have fun. The first goal changed once we started playing more and more shows and meeting more and more people and bands. We've gained some great friends out of doing this and hope to continue doing that. Currently, we're working on our new cd, and hope to acquire some support for distribution and touring. That would be swell. We'll always be having fun though.

4. What drives you to play music together as Chara?
We're definitely all about playing live. No other feeling comes close to that. You can just let everything go and give it your hardest, and it's awesome that people can accept that. Stuff like that is expected with "extreme" bands, but we try and take it to the next level every time we play.

5. Is it easy for you to play infront of an audience?
I think we all still get nervous before we play. That's good though because it keeps you levelled out and aware that you can make mistakes, but once we start playing, all of that goes away and we just play. No worries after that point.

6. What is your most memorable live show to date?
Nick Gallant's house shows have always been a favorite for us. The atmosphere is always good and cozy, and everyone gets into all the bands that play. People jumping through windows, crowd surfing in a basement, how can you beat that?

7. When do you think the best time and situation to listen to Chara is?
When you're in the shower, when you're questioning your ability to continue life, on your way to a wedding, on your way to a funeral, while you're working, while you're sleeping, while you're eating dinner with your family, in school, at the gym, and during those sensual times. Chara's good for anytime, baby.

8. What bands and musicians influenced the Chara sound? What bands are you currently rocking out to?
All of us take our own influences into the band, and a lot of those influences are shared throughout, so it works out fairly well. Anything from Anberlin to NWA to Gutrot, everything we listen to has a certain influence on how we perceive and conceive our music. Right now, I'm currently rocking out to stuff from Job For A Cowboy, Ed Gein, Mewithoutyou, and Sixpence None The Richer.

9. What can we expect from Chara in the future?
Our new CD to be released in the next couple of months, and a major step-up in our live show. We want every show to be a different experience for whoever is there, and I think we'll keep on with that idea.

10. How can kids get in touch with you?

11. Any last words or advice?
If you have any desire at all to start a band, do it. Whether it's disco, metal, punk, rock, techno, ambient, whatever, making music is fun and there's nothing else like that feeling.
