1.Please
introduce Pig and give a brief history of the band. JC: Tyler Fleck,
Matt Samways, Justin Crowe, Jason Marshall. Tyler and Matt needed
a bassist and drummer for a band they wanted to start and I didn't
know them but volunteered, I was into what they wanted to start.
It was pretty awkward and we jammed and it was pretty bad.
MS: We got our name from a shirt John Cusack wore.
2.
What does Pig mean to you? JC: A band that we experiment different types of sounds and
words, make noise and try to be melodic sometimes, I guess.
3. What are
some of the things you try to communicate through your music? JC: Nothing in particular for me. Whatever is on my mind
at the moment.
MS: I'm not really sure.
TF: I don't know.
JM: I try to communicate..
4. You all
seem to have a pretty diverse taste in music; what are your musical
backgrounds? When did punk/noise/whatever come into play? JC: Truro pretty much got me into punk/hardcore, when I started
going to shows in high school. Genetic Angry to be exact.. and
then I listened to bands I'd never listen to before and it just
opened my eyes. I saw Divorce bands years ago, Quebexico last
year, it was a style I really liked. I really like 90's music,
I grew up listening to it.
MS: I really like noise.
TF: The process of weeding out.
JM: When I was in Jr. Highschool I started playing music and got
into a bunch of different kinds of things.
5. Truro seems
to be generating a bit of buzz these days, how has the city itself
influenced you? What is your take on the current state of the
Truro scene? JC: Truro has been a fun scene to grow up in. Hardcore, punk,
metal was all it was when I got into it pretty much, but now it's
different genres at all times, most of the time.
MS: Truro's a city? I haven't been here for long but I was quickly
welcomed into the scene. I really like it. Great bands play here
all the time and sometimes we get to play with them which rules.
TF: Truro hasn't really influenced me. It's cool.
JM: The people i've met that live have influenced me. I feel the
scene is lacking in bands and attendence but what remains is pretty
solid.
6. How did
you end up doing the 3 way split with Scribbler and !Kung San?
How did the relationship develop with the other bands? JC: !Kung San played at my house last summer, we mentioned
doing a split, and then we played at Scribbler's house in the
fall, and they mentioned the same thing, so we combined. They're
awesome people. Alex made some great artwork.
MS: When I saw !Kung San in Justin's room they really blew me
away. I've always really been into Scribbler.
JM: We met on a blind date.
7. What is
it that you hope (a) Pig and (b) you as a person can accomplish
through music / art / whatever? JC: Opening other people to other types of music maybe, I'm
not exactly sure at this point. Personally Pig is for my own enjoyment,
it's the music I like to play and listen to.
MS: I just really like exprimenting.
TF: Backed.
JM: I really like to play drums.
8. If you had
to choose a Pig song to be on a mixtape that featured Be Bad,
Ampere, Quebexico, Vkngs, and Saetia, which song would you choose? JC: Hate And Other People, I'd say. It's not recorded yet.
MS: Freebird.
TF: I think we'd write something new.
JC: I'd say Hate And Other People too.
9. A favourite
recipe: JC: Pizza Farm.
MS: Crystal Meth.
TF: Nothing with sugar.
JC: Sheppard's pie with fried beats.
10. The end
of civilization will be caused by: JC: Aliens.
MS: Bummble gum.
TF: A gay gaint squid. No homo.
JM: A zombie Jesus.
11. How badly
do I have to beg you to play a show in Charlottetown? JC: Not very badly.
MS: I'm really down.
TF: King Kong.
JM: ^
12. What's up
next for the band? JC: Usual band stuff.
MS: Jeuene ete.
TF: We're gonna realease something through Meager, Kenneth from
!Kung San's new label.
JM: Hopefully no more interviews. We're fucking terrible at this.
