an Outline from 7"
1.Please
introduce Play Guitar and give some background behind the band.
L: Hi. My name is Lindsay. I'm happy to be here. Presently I am standing
in front of a theatre set constructed out of a wall-size scenic landscape
painting of the Boreal forest. The set is really just a life-size
diorama. So I'm surrounded by many animals but it's really my living
room. So there's hand crafted furniture around, too. This particular
set is to be used in a scene of the musical "Play Guitar" where the
drummer finds her power animal. A horse. I am the drummer, by the
way. I also like polar bears, deer, whales, dogs and orange animals.
For right now.
C: stands for Christian. I'm in an office. Kerri's the bass distortion
player but she had to go to her house.
2. How would you describe your music to someone that has yet
to hear it?
C: Not so well.
L: I find it to be very exciting.
3. What does Play Guitar mean to you?
C: It's actually a spoonerism for Glay Puitar, who was a Frenchman
in the late 1400s. We tried to think of an anagram that would incorporate
his middle name, but we couldn't use all those 'Q's.
L: Friends, community, history, abandon, grounded, melody.
C: Be honest, Linds.
4. What were the original goals of the band?
L: We were just having fun. And still are.
C: It's like team sports and we would at least like to have one of
the best handshakes.
K: And warmup routines.
L: Yes. Hey Kerri, where were you?
K: My house.
5. What are some of the things you try to communicate through
your music?
L: Off and away.
C: Yeah, outer space.
K: Brrouuowwww
6. You have a tour coming up with the Stolen Minks, how did this
come about?
L: I'm not available to answer this question.
K: They simply asked us if we would like join them on their upcoming
tour and we said "deal"
C: We can only go halfway though, so it's half of a tour. On our way
home, we'll be visiting the finer tennis courts in Southern Ontario.
7. What is your ideal show (venue, other bands, etc)?
L. I was just thinking about shows earlier and funny places for us
to play. It would be fun to play in a wide open space. A football
game or NASCAR...! The audience would be hundreds of feet away. Crazy.
But in reality, I prefer shows where there is a nice exchange going
on between us and those in attendance.
C. I wouldn't be playing, but Jim Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Make Believe,
Deerhoof, The Beatles and My Bloody Valentine would.
8. Tell me a little about your upcoming 7" and how the relationship
with Black Mountain developed.
L: I believe the relationship with Black Mountain began because of
a pilgrimage, an accident, and then an ascent to the top of Black
Mountain. Christian, can you clarify?
C: Yeah, our friend is very adventurous. Thanks lindsay. Back to you.
L: I'm so excited for this little (ie. 7") record to be released!
I think of Roxette, the band, when I think of a record being released.
They were one of the first records I ever listened to.
9. When do you think the best moment to listen to a Play Guitar
record is?
L: When you're hanging out with your friends outside. It also fits
inside, inside your head. It's summery and shimmery. But it is a bit
dirty, too. I'd recommend not wearing socks.
C. Yeah, just whenever you can get it loud enough.
10. What is your favourite dance party song?
L. "Conga" by Gloria Estefan and all Roxette, even the melancholy
ones.
K: Or "cold hearted snake".
C: Cyndi Lauper.
11. What's up next for Play Guitar?
K: We should record more.
C: Yeah, we also need to get those animal costumes.
12. How can people contact you?
C. In the internet.
13. Final words?
K: "Body Massage."
L: "I do also have a couple of surprises -- which I can't tell you,
because then it wouldn't be a surprise. So, don't ask what the surprise
is. I'm not going to tell you." - Gloria Estefan
