1. Please introduce Slave Class and give a brief history of
the band:
Jakob Poirier = Vocals, Jamie Hanus = Bass and Back up Vocals,
Matt Sheidow = Guitar, Derrick Crybaby = Drums and long distance
charges.
2. What does Slave Class consider worth fighting for?
Slave Class fights to keep punk rock raw, violent, offencive,
loud, intoxicated, fun, destructive, belligerent, and a general
threat to its participants, bystanders, and the establishment.
3. What politics and/or ethics, if any, play a role in the
band, the lyrics and the way the group goes about its business?
On an individual level the members of Slave Class are largely
anarchist in ideology and practace. We belive in D.I. Y. As well,
we believe in chaos, violence, destruction and substance abuse.
As a band we work to promote these things. Lyically politics are
almost void, except for satirically and overtly violent "by
any means" banter. Most of our songs are about eye gouging,
pyromaniacal tendencies, inflicting pain and death on others,
etc. I fucking hate people and i want them to know it.
4. You just finished a two week tour of Eastern Canada. What
cities were the best to play? Any interesting stories from the
tour?
Tour Sucks 2008 kicked ass and in fact didn't really suck at all.
Halifax was rad because we know a lot of people and bands there.
We played the East Coast Punk Fest and got to see a lot of great
bands that we really love (SPEW, GET WRECKED, GONE DRINKING, THE
ADHESIVES, and a bunch of others). Troux Rivier, or however the
fuck you spell it was great. We stayed and played with our friends
HE LIES IN RUIN (members of HANDS OF DEATH and SOIL OF IGNORANCE).
We played at the band houise in the studio for a bunch of drunk
french punx it was a blast. And of course Montreal kicked ass. We played at a big punk house/squat
venue called The Gates of Hell with Blugeoned (members of GLOBAL
HOLACAUST) and others. It was a great show and the venues was
awesome, with an illigal bar and a few hundred drunken punx and
crusties. It was alos one of our more profitable shows as payment
was made via a bag passed around that got filled up with cash
and beer - no complaints there.
5. Tell me about the "Killdozer Rampage" 7"
you just released. I didn't notice a record label attached to
the release, did you choose to release it yourselves? What can
we expect to hear from it?
Ya we released the record ourselves with the help of our friend
Chris Gallant doing the recording. This pressing was of 300 records
and comes with a 15 track mp3 CD for $8. It is a good record,
with 9 tracks but we look forward to recording agian soon as we've
gotten a lot better as a band and with song writing. We hope to
release a split with a new up and coming act out of halifax called
NAPALM RAID (members of SPEW, GET WRECKED, HELLACAUST, HOOKER
BLOOD, SIDEWALK SLUTS). We also released a live cd recored at
Baba's Lounge, again by Chris, just before the tour. It is really
brutal and has super funny banter between songs. It comes with
a patch and is available for $5.
6. It seems that you guys have all played in influential Charlottetown
bands in the past (tlb, pos, cheers to beers, to name a few),
how have your past experiences influenced the band and what sets
Slave Class apart from your other projects?
Well just like any experiences - we have learned a lot from our
musical pasts. I think the main thing is that we are all on the
same page in terms of musicall direction and setting acheivable
goals for the band (ie. - touring , recording , investing in merch,
etc.). We are playing a style of punk rock that we are passionate
about and proud of. Crust and grindcore are under appreciated
and under represented in this part of the country and we're going
to change that.
7. What is your current take on the Charlottetown scene, it
seems that you guys are one of the only ones waving the hc/punk
flag these days, what experiences have you had in Charlottetown
both good and bad?
Charlottetown is ok but just like everywhere people are trendy
and there is a lot of trend hopping hipster jerk offs to deal
with. We sure as fuck aren't writing songs about breaking up with
our girlfriends and we're not into wearing pink because it's the
new black. We know we play an extreme style of punk rock and that
limits your audience to a degree. I guess when it boils down to
it we just don't reeally give a fuck. We play music for us and
the people who get it. Fuck the trends and fuck the hipsters.
8. What is it that you hope (a) Slave Class (b) you as a person
can accomplish through music/art or whatever?
We want to get drunk. A lot. I want to get drunk. Also we want
to remind people that punk rock isn't suppose to be something
you listen to with your mom. We just want to get fucked up and
fuck shit up, so fuck you.
9. Who would you consider your current contemporaries in hc/punk
No one can step to this.
10. The end of civilization will be caused by:
A Killdozwer Rampage.
11. What's up next for the band?
We are writing now - this shit is brutal. Then we want to record
again and plan another tour. We are going to keep pushing on for
as long as we can make it last.
