IMPOSSIBLE PINEAPPLE PT 2 from LIKE LETTERS

1. Please introduce The Superfantastics and give some back info:
One late summer eve, following a game of tips (sort of like frisbee), Steph mentioned that she would like to learn how to play the drums and that the best way for her to learn would be if someone played guitar so she would have something to drum along to. Matt agreed to help her out. thus began The Superfantastics.

2. How would you describe your music?
The band would most concisely be described as a simple and melodic power-pop duo. The sound tends to embrace that of the early 90s halifax music scene - the songs are generally quirky and rarely exceed 2 minutes in length.

3. What does your family think of the band? How do you describe it to relatives that have little to no experience with your type of music?
Matt's parents haven't yet heard the band, but Steph's dad described a performance as "less noisy than [he] thought it would be". Their families are very supportive of their musical pursuits.

4. What does The Superfantastics mean to you?
"We just like to have fun STOP and try not to take ourselves too seriously STOP" replies Stephanie via telegraph.

5. What are some things you try to communicate through the music?
The songs are generally made up on the spot at their rehersals, with Matthew penning the lyrics later on. The subject matter of their songs usually revolves around a person or event that closely affects the band.

6. What is it that drives you to play music together as The Superfantastics?
Usually they walk. or take a cab. *Badum pshhh*

7. What bands, current and past, would you say influence the band?
The band is heavily influenced by locals bands that they listen to and play with, such as The Sleepless Nights, Dog Day and Contrived.

8. What is your musical background?
As mentioned earlier, Stephanie did not begin playing drums until starting the band. Matt's been playing guitar and writing songs in bands since junior high.

9. When did punk/indie/whatever come into play?
From day one. No, actually day 2. Day one was heavy metal.

10. What's been your most memorable live show to date?
A drag show called 'Hissyfit' back in March. They did a set of covers by locals bands - Matt looked hot in a dress and Steph looked like Luigi.

11. What would have to happen in order for you to feel as if The Superfantastics should not play together anymore?
They generally try to steer away from talking about such things.

12. When do you think the best moment to listen to The Superfantastics is?
When dancing, or in the mood for dancing.

13. If you had to choose a Superfantastics song for a mixtape that includes Mirah, Deerhoof, Mates of State, This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, Comtbatwoundedveteran, and Discount, which song would you choose and why?
Impossible Pineapple Part ii. Why? Why not?

14. What is your favourite dance party song?
Pretty much everything on Muchmusic Dance Mix 93.

15. What plans are in the future for The Superfantastics?
Some halifax shows, maybe a small tour, and a demo released on compact disc as well as cassette tape.
