Ivurineformation #1 by Stephan MacLeod

Ivurinformation #1 is a loveable rough and tumble piece of work made by Stephan MacLeod (Windom Earle Fame) back in '97. This is zine really packs a punch! I recently asked Stephan a few questions about the zine:

1. It was 1997 when you folded, pasted, printed, and plodded over your first zine of your own. Take us back there, what were you thinking? What made you want to do a zine?
I think I was compelled by the idea of using a photocopier and making something that resembled my favourite magazines. The idea that I could produce a physical product was almost more exciting than the content. It was liberating to feel like I was accomplishing something on very small scale - troubleshooting how the layout will work, and teaching myself very basic design. But I would never consider myself a true zine maker. I only made three.

2. You mentioned to me when you handed your zine to me a number of months ago that it was very special to you. Would you care to elaborate on that?
It's the only copy I have, and only a very few copies were made. Even things I've worked on that had bigger circulation end up becoming precious because most of the copies get dispersed or trashed and you're only left with whatever you saved yourself. I don't expect anybody else to put any effort in preserving my dick jokes, so I try to as best I can.

3. Did you ever think your zine would make it into a online zine archive? Is the internet a necessary evil these days when it comes to not only zine culture but dare I say punk rock / underground culture in general?
I think I once tried to preserve it online the old fashioned way - with a blog, but the limitations of making a magazine using HTML take away any of the charm of a project that was laid out by hand for a photocopier. And the lack of interactivity in a zine kind of makes it seem even more pointless. A website is a different kind of home for content and should be approached with appropriate content and design. But a scanned image of a zine online seems as good a place as anywhere to keep it safe.

4. Any final words for aspiring zinesters in 2010?
You guys have Staples, back in my day I had to sneak into my mom's work.
