Exclusive: ECMA Roundup by Aimee Power March 10.10

The East Coast Music Awards took place in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia Canada this past weekend and we were lucky enough to have our very own Aimee Power on the ground covering the events and just having a grand ol' time. JUNNNKtank.com thanks the East Coast Music Association for granting us a Media Pass. The following is the first of a multi-part series of ECMA coverage provided by senior contributor Aimee Power. "I will tell you, that getting your Cape Breton face on is a lot of hard work during ECMA weekend. It involves eating very little, drinking very much and rocking a mid-afternoon nap to keep it all in. We arrived Thursday afternoon and checked into a questionable hotel. The first show of our weekend was a Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative showcase. It happened at Smooth Herman's which had a very Myron's-esque vibe. Take that as you wish, I guess. When I walked in I heard my first dose of fiddle music! Cape Breton does not disappoint when it comes to celtic tunes! Colin Grant was making the crowd go crazy with his insanely quick fiddle playing, and I have to admit that I was impressed. People were stepdancing...what?!" PLEASE CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING

Drive to the Coast: New Royalty by Aimee Power March 08.10

Senior JUNNNKtank.com Contributor Aimee Power has returned from the ECMA weekend and will have a full report of the weeks events coming soon. In the mean time enjoy this edition of Drive to the Coast of New Royalty from Baba's Lounge in downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada: "These young pups never fail to entertain me. New Royalty are the happiest kids on Prince Edward Island and I am proud to have had their very first show (i think?) in my basement in 2007. Since that night, they've gained more confidence and creativity, and I feel so thrilled as to how they've grown. Okay, I sound like a dorky mom, but all I want is for these guys to keep playing shows so I can keep attending. Not so much to ask, I don't think." GET IN GEAR AND DRIVE TO THE COAST

Boxlor by Mike & Jonah

Last week we were in Toronto and Boxlor missed his flight, but this week he's back and struggling with addiction in Boxlor, Recovering Alcoholic. "Boxlor was a zine created by Mike Lecky & Jonah Campbell. But, I'll let them explain: "Why? Well, high school I guess. Boxlor was born out of (birthed from as it were) the minds of two creative and misguided teenage boys, early in the summer '99."

Banner Pilot Interview

The last five years have been fantastic for me as far as the band goes and totally exceeded my expectations – initially they were just to try to write some songs with Nate, play some local shows and maybe record something. It’s hard to for me to believe that we just released an album on Fat Wreck Chords and are about to tour Europe – things just seem to have fallen into place, and I think we’ve been lucky with a lot of the opportunities we’ve gotten and the people we’ve connected with (Jacques Wait, Fat Mike, etc.).

Daniel Striped Tiger Q&A

Today, we're proud to bring you an interview with Boston Massachusetts' own Daniel Striped Tiger. We talked with the band about a number of topics including their dedication to their music and their ethics, their strong relationship with Cleanplate records, what it's like to be involved in that strong Massachusetts DIY community and much more including a look back and their 2008 European tour with Sinaloa as well as what the future holds for the band!

Podcast No. 10

Check out the latest Mistaken For Strangers Podcast. Episode No. 10 comes in the form of an audio zine as I spin records from my bedroom. This one is a little different than our other podcasts. Total nerd warning.

From The Heart Distro

We're a shoebox distro. We're really small and we think that adds to our charm a little bit. We have a corner at the Green man (48 University Ave) in downtown Charlottetown. Our full catalogue of records, cds, books/zines, posters and more is all there! Don't be a stranger; pop into the store and say hi They're real fine people at The Green Man.

CBC National Coverage

CBC Editor's Choice picked up an interview I did with Mainstreet PEI in late July. National coverage, neat!
