The
Night Back Alley Came Alive July 5.08

Prior
to July 5th 2008 the word around Charlottetown was that nobody
dances at Back Alley shows. No one could really seem to put their
finger on it; but the same kids who completely lost their minds
at Lyons House and JFK House could not seem to duplicate the intensity
at Back Alley regardless of how great the bands were.
On
this night that tradition was not only broken; it was completely
blown away and forgotten. On a humid summer evening in a room
with low ceilings and no windows we collectively wore masks and
lost our minds. The Barnkats, New Royalty, Fredericton New Brunswicks
Koak, and Toronto Ontario's The Ghost Is Dancing provided fuel
to the fire in the form of catchy pop hooks and inspiring folky
rock.
I
got the idea for a masked theme show from working on a puppet
show with my then future girlfriend all week long. I discovered
how easy it would be to make masks and one night I stayed up all
night making pink polar bear ones. We gave them out to anyone
who didn't have a mask of their own under the condition that if
they wore them they'd have to dance --I'd say it worked out pretty
well.
